Nightbird was founded in April of 2015 by owner/stylist Lowry Beall.

Lowry has been a stylist for over 15 years and was extensively trained in New York City, starting at the Aveda Institute in Soho. Over the years she's worked with musicians, artists, models, moms and everything in between.

She sharpened her craft through many advanced education classes in styling, cutting and color with Vidal Sassoon's Advanced Academy in London, Bumble & Bumble NYC, Toni & Guy NYC, Wella, Aveda, Davines, Kevin Murphy and with famed celebrity stylist Oribe. In NYC, she was a senior stylist at Woodley & Bunny, one of Elle Magazine's top 100 salons nationally and featured in Vogue, GQ, Nylon, NY Times, NY Magazine, Refinery29, Allure, Real Simple, Marie Claire, Paper, Time Out, Esquire, Oprah, Conde Nast, W, and InStyle magazine, among others. She has worked NYC's famed Fashion Week, as well as Charleston Fashion Week, along with styling many editorial shoots, weddings, music videos, film and theatrical productions.

Lowry is a huge fan of soft, natural textures in hair. She loves enhancing and bringing out natural wave with razor cuts, but is equally skilled at precision scissor cuts. She especially loves loose, lived-in sexy 70’s shags with curtain bangs, as well as modern takes on the classic French bob. Although she loves her clients leaving with great cuts, she also equally believes in “perfect, seamless grow-outs” and her favorite (and most frequent compliment) from clients is when they say how much they loved how her cuts grew out. She also truly loves figuring out the best, most perfect fringe for your face (bang lovers unite).

Healing creative arts + astrology are her other big passions, and in her spare time you can find her voraciously reading, taking classes on meditation, energetic healing and metaphysical sciences, pulling tarot cards, hanging at home with her family (two funny cats and a cute husband) and daydreaming about international travel destinations.

Although she is not currently taking on new color clients, she happily refers them over to her Nightbird colleagues Hilary and Tamara.

Hilary is a native Portlander who loves living and working in the unique culture of the Pacific Northwest. After completing her initial training at Portland's own Paul Mitchell School in 2015, she further honed her skills with an intensive apprenticeship at one of the city's top salons. She is passionate about continuing education, and has enjoyed in-depth courses in color, cutting, and styling from top educators with Oribe, Goldwell, Paul Mitchell, Redken, R + Co, and more.

Hilary values collaborating with her clients to create cuts and colors that are tailored to their individual style, using her craft to help people look and feel their best. She especially enjoys long layered cuts, blunt or classic bobs, and rich, natural looking colors, with a particular passion for seamlessly blended highlights/balayage. We have nicknamed her the “Blonde Whisperer” because of her staggeringly gorgeous and perfectly blended balayages.

When she's not at the salon, Hilary loves checking out Portland's great neighborhood coffee shops, vintage shopping and exploring Oregon's beautiful outdoors.
